Shipping & Delivery

We ship from two warehouses - our EU warehouse near Prague and our US warehouse in California, both run by our 3PL partner Shipmonk. Most products ship from the EU. A select group of bestsellers (Kappa Kanpeki, SSC Fish Paper, Hangiri, Neta Boxes) is also stocked in the US for faster delivery to North American customers.
Within the EU: typically 3-7 business days. Within the US (for the items stocked there): 3-6 business days. Other international destinations: 7-14 business days, sometimes longer depending on customs. Express options are available at checkout for most regions.
Free standard shipping on all EU orders over €80. The code SHIP80 can be applied at checkout if it doesn't auto-apply. Other regions are calculated at checkout based on weight and destination.
Yes. Once your order ships, our 3PL Shipmonk emails you the tracking number directly. If you haven't received tracking within 24 hours of the dispatch confirmation, check your spam folder, then email us at office@smartsushichef.com.
First, contact the delivery carrier directly using your tracking number - they'll have the most current information and can usually resolve most delays. If the carrier confirms the package is lost or never shipped, email us at office@smartsushichef.com and we'll arrange a replacement or refund. We're forgiving on this - we'd rather make it right than argue.
Not yet. Our US warehouse currently stocks only Kappa Kanpeki, SSC Fish Paper, Hangiri, and Neta Boxes. If a US customer orders other items, the order will be automatically refunded - we don't ship across the Atlantic for individual orders. We're expanding the US catalogue gradually based on demand.
Within the EU: no - VAT is included and there are no customs charges between EU member states. Outside the EU (UK, US for non-stocked items, etc.): you may be charged import duties and local VAT by the carrier on delivery. These charges are set by your country, not by us.

Returns & Refunds

Yes. Within the EU you have the right to a 14-day return under EU consumer law, and we extend this to 30 days as standard. Email office@smartsushichef.com with your order number and reason for return - we'll send return instructions.
Contact us within 48 hours of delivery with photos of the damage and packaging. We'll arrange a replacement or full refund - your choice. You don't need to ship the damaged item back unless we ask.
Once we confirm the return or damage, refunds are processed within 2 business days. The card or account refund itself usually shows up 3-10 business days later, depending on your bank.
For hygiene reasons, knives can only be returned if unused and in original packaging. If a knife arrives damaged or with a manufacturing defect, that's covered as normal - contact us with photos.

Kappa Kanpeki

It's designed around Japanese single-bevel blades - Usuba, Yanagiba, and Sashimi knives - but works with any knife with a blade width between 40 and 60mm. If you're not sure about your knife, email us a photo and the dimensions and we'll confirm.
Cucumber and daikon are the originals, but it works on any firm cylindrical vegetable: apples, potatoes, zucchini, eggplant, carrots, even onions. The vegetable needs to be firm enough to hold its shape under the knife.
Yes - that was the design goal. Traditional katsuramuki takes years to master. The guide sets the depth so you don't need pro-level technique, just a sharp knife and a steady pull.
Yes. The Kappa Kanpeki is an original invention by Smart Sushi Chef and is protected by a EU registered trademark for the name "Kappa Kanpeki", a registered EU Community Design for the product's appearance, and a US trademark for "Smart Sushi Chef." There are knockoffs of v1 floating around online - only Smart Sushi Chef and our licensed retailers sell the genuine v2.
Hand-wash only with warm water and mild soap. Don't put it in the dishwasher - high heat and aggressive detergents can damage the magnets and ABS body over time. Dry thoroughly before storage.
The Full Set (€39.95) is the three guide sizes (1mm, 2mm, 3mm) plus carrying case - for chefs who already own a knife they trust. The Knife System (€99.95) is the Full Set plus a single-bevel Usuba knife - the easiest way to start if you don't already have a Japanese-style blade.
Email us with your order number and a photo. We replace these without question - magnet retention is a known issue we're actively engineering against, and we'd rather replace yours than have you lose faith in the product.

Orders & Payment

All major credit and debit cards via Shopify Payments (Visa, Mastercard, Amex), plus Apple Pay and Google Pay where supported. Business customers can pay by bank transfer / invoice - contact sales@smartsushichef.com to set that up.
Yes. Email office@smartsushichef.com with your order number, company name, and VAT ID - we'll send a full VAT invoice (suitable for EU business accounting) within one business day.
Only if your order hasn't shipped yet. Email office@smartsushichef.com immediately - we typically dispatch within 24-48 hours, so the sooner you contact us, the better.
Not as a checkout option, but if you mention it in the order notes (or email us right after ordering), we'll do our best. Some products come with their own quality packaging that needs no extra wrapping.

B2B & Wholesale

Yes. We work with restaurants, hotel chains, distributors, and culinary schools across Europe and the US. Tiered pricing starts from 10+ units. Net 30 payment terms are available for established accounts. Apply on our B2B page.
Yes - we're an authorised Suzumo distribution partner for the EU through our partner in Vienna. We don't carry stock; sales are quote-based and handled directly by our team. See the Sushi Robots page for available models and to request a quote.
Yes - custom branding is available on Neta Boxes and select wooden ware for B2B accounts above a minimum order quantity. Email sales@smartsushichef.com with your concept and quantities.

We curate from three places: Japanese specialist makers (knives, masu, hangiri, baran, hasegawa boards), our own designs (Kappa Kanpeki and accessories), and select European and Asian manufacturing partners. Every SKU has been tested and used by Ethan in a working kitchen before it makes the catalogue.
